The Game of Skill and Psychology

Unlike most casino games, poker pits players against each other rather than the house. This makes it the ultimate skill-based game where strategy, psychology, and discipline determine the winner.

Texas Hold'em Basics

Each player receives two hole cards. Five community cards are dealt face-up across three stages: the Flop (3 cards), the Turn (1 card), and the River (1 card). You make the best five-card hand using any combination of your hole cards and community cards.

Hand Rankings (Highest to Lowest)

  • Royal Flush — A, K, Q, J, 10 of the same suit
  • Straight Flush — Five consecutive cards of the same suit
  • Four of a Kind — Four cards of the same rank
  • Full House — Three of a kind plus a pair
  • Flush — Five cards of the same suit
  • Straight — Five consecutive cards of mixed suits
  • Three of a Kind — Three cards of the same rank
  • Two Pair — Two different pairs
  • One Pair — Two cards of the same rank
  • High Card — The highest card when no other hand is made

Position Is Power

Your seat relative to the dealer button matters enormously. Late position (cutoff, button) lets you act after most players, giving you more information to make better decisions. Play tighter in early position and wider in late position.

In poker, you don't need the best hand to win — you need the best strategy. Every great poker player was once a beginner who refused to stop learning.
